Washington DC Day 3

For Katie Rose, the day had finally arrived! She had been planning this day for months... our trip to the National Zoo!  She had wanted to see a real, live panda and she got her wish!  Baby Bao-Bao did not disappoint.. nor his parents.  They were all super cute and worth the long wait in line!  We also saw many other animals that we don't normally see in our local Boise Zoo... including elephants.  It was quite a large zoo, very nice and free! :)

It was nice having Tuffie with us on this day...

After the zoo, Tuffie drove us to the downtown Georgetown area.  It was quite the fun and festive place to be on a Saturday night!  We spent a peaceful evening walking by the river, eating in a local restaurant, watching the college kids out having a good time and going to the famous Georgetown DC Cupcakes!

DC Cupcakes was on our bucket list of places to go to while in DC and, they did not disappoint!  It was so hard to choose which ones to try... Definitely a place we'll always remember!

Washington DC Day 2

Thankfully, Meredith had our whole trip planned out perfectly!  We were able to get in all of the main attractions and then some.  For our first full day in DC, Friday, we spent the day walking around the Tidal Basin and seeing all the monuments.  Our metro stop was in the heart of the city so we were able to experience that as well.  We even saw the PEW building where Meredith works!
 The Washington Monument

 World War II Memorial

 We found Idaho!!

 Vietnam Memorial

The timing of our trip just barely missed the beautiful Cherry Blossom Festival!  However, we were still able to find a few blooming trees.. so pretty!

Walking around the Tidal Basin gave us wonderful views of the memorials and monuments... from a distance and up close.   Jefferson Memorial

The White House.  Security as tight this day due to an arrival of another foreign country's leader.  It was cool to see the special motor brigade upon his arrival!

Ford's Theater where Abraham Lincoln was shot and the house across the street from the theater when he was taken and later passed away.

Washington DC Day 1

When my dear friend, Meredith, moved to Washington DC last summer I immediately began planning a trip to go out to see her.  Soon Katie Rose and mom got added into that trip and we made a fun and fabulous girl's trip!!!  This was Katie's first time in an airplane (that she could remember) and her first time visiting DC... needless to say, she was super excited! She had been planning this trip for months and counting down the days.  She read up on historical facts, learned about the monuments and had a big wish to see the baby panda, Bao-Bao, at the National Zoo.  She was not disappointed and it was all a wonderful experience.  The best part was seeing Meredith again!!  And, she had done a terrific job at planning our itinerary so that we could get in as much siteseeing as possible in the 5 days we were there.  We arrived on April 16th and flew home the 22nd.
We had to wake up super early in order to get to the Boise airport in time for our 8am flight... but, Katie Rose was up and ready to go!!!

The pilot was super nice in letting her sit in the cockpit and giving her an aviation wings pin!
After our long day of flying and carrying luggage, it was so wonderful to be in DC and with Meredith!!  Our first big city experience was the metro.  Meredith had metro cards ready for us and, throughout our visit we used the system everyday... many times a day.  No driving in the city made it a fabulous commute!
